My son is
21 months old. He has hit a lot of his
developmental stages early, but this was something that always excited me as I
was so proud to see his growth. Only
recently has it become something I fear.
You see we have begun introducing words like pee pee, poo poo, and potty
into our vocabulary to familiarize him with the words so that when we are ready
to potty train him he would be able to communicate his needs. Almost instantly he picked up the
concept. He began leaving the room and
would return pointing at his diaper and saying poop poop. Here is this kid (20 mo at the time) telling
me whenever he pooped! When he peed he
had a harder time with; he knew the feeling of peeing and would say potty
whenever he peed, even though the potty would be too late since he had already
peed. We got him one of the little step
ladder to put on the potty where we put him on it whenever he said potty, to
once again get him used to the idea. We
have been doing this for about two or three weeks and so today when he came to
me and pointed to his diaper and said potty I did the usual: I took off his
pants and diaper and sat him on the toilet, but today he actually went pee pee
in the potty!!!!! How he came to understand the sensation before peeing and
then to communicate that to me at his age astounds me! It scares me too. I haven’t done any reading on potty training
yet and it is obvious that he is ready.
Ahhhh I am so not ready for this. I am still so proud of him, just terrified as
we are entering territory he is ready for and I am not. Guess I better get on top of things and set
out a schedule. I am just so amazed
right now J
I am amazed and excited as well!!!!! What a little stud man!
ReplyDeleteHe's so smart! It'll be good for him to have himself potty trained before the baby arrives. :)
